Bay Area Winter League Finale:

Our teams participated in the last weekend of the Bay Area Winter League. Below is a quick recap from our fantastic coaches:

14U White Team

Game 1: 3-13 loss to Tri-Valley
Being our first game back from break, it took some time to get back into the swing of things. Our second half looked much better, with better ball movement and overall awareness. Tri-Valley had a more experienced (AKA older) player, but Ryan and Cole did a great job defending him at set!

Game 2: 5-13 loss to HBU
Now awake from our first game, and a few more subs, we were looking better! With more efficient passing and confident offensive attacks. HBU was a more physical team than the first, but once everyone found an equally skilled player to defend, it came down to speed and anticipating counterattacks.

A huge shout out to Cole and Thomas, who kindly stepped up as our goalies for both games! Both stopped numerous goals and a five-meter shot!

14U Blue Team

Game 1: 17-3 Win vs. SJWPF B
This was a very comfortable win where strong defense created numerous counterattack opportunities. Our offense never stopped running, and everyone got quality playing time to build confidence.

Game 2: 0-19 Loss to Burlingame
Our second game couldn't have been more opposite from how we started the day. This was an incredibly challenging game from start to finish, as a much older team overpowered us.

The two teams had a clear gap in size, speed, and experience. This ended up being one of those games where you are grateful for some experience against tough competition.

16U White Team

Game 1: 15-5 Loss to San Jose Express Black
It was a very challenging game due to the lack of subs

Game 2: 5-11 Loss to San Jose Express Purple
This was a tough game where lack of stamina became a huge factor. The significantly delayed schedule meant many players could not stay late for this game, and we missed several vital contributors. Luckily, some 16U Blue players volunteered to stay for the game, but the fatigue from the previous two games and playing back-to-back games to finish the day made things difficult.

We stayed competitive, tied 5-5 after the first half, but tired lungs and legs held us back in the second half. Overall, there were signs of clear improvement and skill development from training.

16U Blue Team

Game 1: 10-11 Loss to Diablo C
We got off to a rough start, allowing some easy goals after some mental lapses on offense and defense. But we pushed back into the game late in the second quarter and found offensive success. We began to drive more intensely and earned some ejections that led to goals. We also tightened up on defense in a game where goalie Aiden Braddock had nearly double-digit saves and even scored a goal to end the first half.

The rest of the second half was close, but Diablo scored a late goal and killed the game clock to seal the game.

Overall, another sluggish start to the day's first game meant we had to overcome another early deficit. However, the boys showed a lot of grit and determination, fighting till the end in an intense, close game against a well-established club.

Game 2: 16-0 Win vs. Tri-Valley
The second game of the day was an overwhelmingly solid victory. Our intense defense led to many counterattacks, and the opposing team could not stop our double hole-set offensive scheme with Navid Riahi and Miles Moore setting together.

The versatility of the team and chemistry showed as all players got significant playing time. The offense never slowed down, and our defense held strong consistently throughout.

18U Team

It was a tough loss against Tri-Valley. I am very proud of the excellent behavior of our players when playing against a team that was very disrespectful and had no sportsmanship at all.

It was a great win against Santa Cruz, who beat us by a lot in the first weekend, so the improvement has been noticeable, also considering a few essential absences in our roster.
The final score was 7-6 with Drew Ostrander, who had an outstanding performance with six goals, while the rest of the team played an incredible defense, including the goalies Calvin and Arman.

Let's make this last week of winter an absolute blast and get ready to welcome the spring with open arms!

Splish, splash, we'll see you at the pool!
