Here are a few updates for this week:
We have regular practices this week, so be sure to arrive on time. Let's keep up the great work!
Every player will receive a team t-shirt, and if you're new to the club and still need a team suit, you'll get one, too. Our outstanding parent volunteer, Selah Mapes, will receive a new shipment of t-shirts and suits by the end of the month. If you have any questions, please email her (the contact info is on the team page) or post in the app.
The 12U and 14U teams participated in the West Valley League games this past Sunday. For many of our players, it was their first time competing, and while the games were challenging, that's all part of the learning process. The coaches are incredibly proud of the boys for their effort and determination.
Below is a recap of the event.
Thanks for your ongoing commitment and energy. We're excited for more great practices and games ahead!
Go Mid-Pen!
We faced tough competition against Stanford's B and C teams, and while we didn't win, there were plenty of learning moments. The games highlighted areas where we can grow, particularly regarding awareness of positioning, reacting to the whistle, and staying engaged throughout the game.
Stanford challenged us with some solid offensive play. Still, Phoenix managed to break through with an awesome goal in the game against the C team! While the results didn't go our way, these games gave us a clear sense of what to focus on in practice.
We're confident that the team will see great improvements in these areas with continued hard work.
6-19 Loss to Stanford B
3-16 Loss to Stanford C
To start the season, we played two challenging games against very experienced and physical opponents. However, we did have some notable positives in a game in which many brand-new players had their first experience.
We started relatively strong in both games and displayed flashes of good teamwork. However, stamina and experience came into play relatively quickly as it became clear that we still had a lot of work to do.
The good news is that this was the first step of many in our journey as a team, and we will continue to improve!
