18U Team
Coach Bruno
The team has some players who have never played together before, and a few are having their first experience at the 18U level. Only a few practices didn’t help us be fully ready for the tournament's first weekend.
Considering all that, I am happy with what the boys did.
Game 1 vs. MBU (W 15-13)
It was a very close game, with the two teams taking turns leading until the final 10–10.
We won after the shootout, with Drew Ostrander and Oliver Canniffe scoring twice each on their 5 meters and Sam Stallings scoring the winning one.
Calvin Pfeffer helped with saving two penalties.
Game 2 vs. 222 (L 11-6)
The team had a tough first half where our opponent scored 9-1.
A good second half allowed us to come back until 10-6, with the boys creating many opportunities on offense and playing a very good defense.
16U Blue
Coach Eric
Game 1 vs. SJA (W 23-0)
The entire team performed dominantly. Our first-quarter press defense and clinical counterattacks were too much for the other team, and we found ourselves ahead 13-0 after the first quarter. The rest of the game was good practice for the boys as we experimented with lineups, positions, and new offensive strategies.
Game 2 vs. Tri-Valley A (W 14-3)
The first quarter was a rocky start, for the boys were being lulled into a false sense of confidence when we found ourselves down 0-2 at the quarter break. After minor adjustments and lineup changes, the second line found a rhythm and put the team ahead 3-2 going into the half. The second half showed the fans our true team as we got back into our hard press defense and began putting on more clinical finishing with our counterattacks and strong driving offense. The game ended 13-3 with many highlights across the board as many players found themselves in the scorebook with good team play.
Overall, the blue team's performance was great and will scare other teams to play us!
16U White
Coach Steven
Game 1 vs. SJ Express 4 (W 6-5)
The white team started the day on a tough note by playing their first game with no subs. Our offense was sometimes disjointed and chaotic, but our tenacious and disciplined defense kept the game close. We fell behind late in the game after fatigue started to weigh on us, and it looked like the game would get away from us.
However, our late counterattack tied the game and forced a shootout. Leonard Kabakov Isakov, Evan Ho, and Thomas Moerk all scored penalty goals, while goalie Trevor Snow blocked a crucial penalty shot. After a grueling battle, we won by one goal.
Game 2 vs. SJWPF C (Loss)
Our second game was an uphill battle, and the boys had to grit their teeth and play with one sub. Our opponents had just played our 16U Yellow team, so they were obviously fatigued as well. Once again, the fatigue limited our offensive attack, as we struggled to generate power on our shots. Despite the offensive woes, our defense kept the game competitive for the first three quarters.
Goalie Trevor Snow anchored our defense, making numerous saves. Harun Yasar shut down the opposing center while playing guard for the first time, and our perimeter defenders played high-intensity press defense, which kept us in the game. Eventually, we ran out of energy, and the game slipped away late in the fourth quarter. Overall, it was still a solid first tournament, and we played with determination and good teamwork.
16U Yellow
Coach Steven
Game 1 vs. SJWPF C (L 7-2)
The yellow team started the day with a tough matchup against physical opponents on a full-size field. Our opponents made life difficult on the offensive side of play, as we could not manage to get open for very long or get elevated to make good passes. Our defense struggled early, but we settled in and matched the other team’s intensity.
We looked much sharper and more focused during the second half. Our defense was solid, and our offense found some success, with Alex Dujmovic scoring two goals off drives.
Game 2 vs. SJ Express 4 (W 11-4)
After a quick break, our second game looked much better as we took better care of the ball and played even better defense. Goalie Aidan McGuire was excellent, stopping many tough shots and protecting the ball. William Rodkin also provided a strong anchor at the guard position, making several steals and blocking shots.
Having two reliable defensive anchors for this game allowed our team to be more aggressive with their pressure. This resulted in many counterattacks where we could use our speed. We won easily, which was a nice way to end the day.
