Age Groupings

The Mid-Pen Water Polo Club is organized into five distinct age groups (divisions), each conforming to the age guidelines set forth by USA Water Polo. This arrangement guarantees that athletes of similar ages engage in fair and safe competition within the sport.

In addition to the age group programs, we offer a Co-Ed Masters Program for 18+ alums and local water polo players who would like to play at a low level of commitment.

In which age group does your athlete belong?

The athlete's age on August 1, 2025, determines a player's age group.

Athletes can play up, meaning that they can play in the upper division but not down.

Birthday  Age Group

High School Boys

We offer winter, spring, and summer programs for our 16U and 18U high school boys, aimed at players who are or will be playing in high school at the freshman, JV, or varsity level.

The placement in the 18U or 16U divisions is based on age, not the high school level.

All 18U and 16U players participate in local tournaments, and selected players travel to the KAP7 International in Orange County in February and participate in the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics in July.

18U and 16U are offered the opportunity of an international training trip to Italy in June.

Middle School

We offer a year-round program for 14U and 12U boys who are strong swimmers, able to swim 200 yards, comfortable in the water, and looking better to understand the game, fundamentals, and individual skills. Girls are welcome in our 14U and 12U groups.

All 12U and 14U players participate in local tournaments and selected players in the USA Water Polo Junior Olympics in July.

Splash Ball

We offer a year-round co-ed Splash Ball program for boys and girls ages ten and younger. This is a great program to introduce the sport of water polo and learn the basic skills and fundamentals of the sport in a recreational format. Splashball is a fun, dynamic, and safe way to learn the game of water polo!

Playing Splash Ball, kids develop water safety skills and learn to swim, build endurance and muscle tone, sample a new sport, and meet new friends in a safe, fun environment.

MASTERS

This program is for 18+ alums and local water polo players who would like to play at a low commitment level. We have weekly practices and scrimmages only for fun and would not include competitions.
